State of the Union

A hopeful society has institutions of science and medicine that do not cut ethical corners, and that recognize the matchless value of every life. Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our Creator -- and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale.
George W. Bush

I believe that paragraph ranks the highest on my list of asinine paragraphs from last night's speech.

Also, there is at least one disparity between the version of the address at GOP.com and the version at whitehouse.gov. The one I found is at the very end of the speech. Can you spot more?

Personally, I think a hopeful society should focus first on having a government that does not cut ethical corners. And I would think that violating the constitutional separation of church and state in the middle of your STATE of the Union address would probably fall in the "don't" column....

It must have been difficult for you to narrow down the list of asinine comments to get the "most asinine". What with the comments on human cloning, activist judges, gay marriage, and the like, there was a long list of comments for you to choose from.

Whatever happened to separation of church and state?..
